Is there an app that tells you what to clean?
Yes. Mopkin is a free iPhone app that looks at a photo of your messy room and spotlights what to clean first. Then it gives you one small step at a time, so you never have to plan the whole job.
The short answer
Most cleaning apps give you a list: daily chores, weekly chores, a schedule to keep. That’s useful once you’re in a routine, but it doesn’t help with the moment you open the door to a messy room and don’t know where to begin.
Mopkin is built for that moment. Instead of a list, it looks at your actual room and tells you the one thing to do right now. On the App Store it’s called Mopkin: AI Cleaning Buddy, with the subtitle “Clean one task at a time.”
How Mopkin picks what to clean first
- Snap the mess. Open Mopkin and take a photo of the room, desk, counter or corner that’s bugging you. That’s all the setup there is.
- Get a spotlight. Mopkin uses AI to look at the photo and draws a glowing box around the first thing to tackle, like the clothes on the floor.
- Do just that. Everything else stays out of sight until you’re done.

What one step looks like
Each step is short and specific, with a timer that tells you how long it should take, from about 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. For example: “Pick up the clothes on the floor, 30 sec.” Under it are a few simple controls:
- Done moves you to the next step.
- Not this one swaps the step for a different one, no guilt.
- Why this one? shows Mopkin’s reasoning, such as “It’s the biggest pile, and clearing the floor makes the whole room feel better fast.”
- Undo brings a step back if you tapped Done by mistake.
You can also tell Mopkin how much energy you have, so the first step stays realistic on a low day.
Watching the room change
As you finish steps, Mopkin builds an AI-generated preview of how your space could look when it’s tidy, filling in a little more each time. It’s a picture made by AI to show your progress, not a photo of your room. When you finish, there’s a small celebration with confetti, the steps you did and how long it took. A weekly streak and an optional nudge for the next day help you come back.

Why one step beats a checklist
When a room is messy, the hardest part is usually deciding where to start. A long checklist doesn’t remove that decision. It multiplies it. A single, obvious next step does the opposite: there’s nothing to plan, so it’s easy to begin, and once you’ve begun, momentum does a lot of the work. You can read more about this approach in our guide on how to clean a messy room without getting overwhelmed.
Who it’s for
Mopkin is for anyone who wants to start cleaning but can’t pick where: busy parents, students, people running low on energy, and lots of people with ADHD who freeze at a big mess (here’s our guide on how to clean with ADHD). It works on any space, from one cluttered desk to a whole home, one spot at a time (here’s where to start when the whole house is a mess). It’s a cleaning app, not a medical or therapy app.
What it costs and what you need
- Price: free. No subscription, no paywall.
- Account: none needed. Open the app and snap your first mess.
- Device: an iPhone with iOS 26 or later. There’s no Android version.
- Privacy: Mopkin’s App Store privacy label says the data it may collect isn’t linked to your identity.
